- 185 US dollars$185
- 4100 Cameron Park Drive
Service Description
You will learn how to cast silver using a broom. Broom casting will take place in the morning, we will break for lunch (included) and then make jewelry after lunch. Class runs from 9:30-4:30pm. In this class supplies and materials will be provide for your jewelry, and depending on your creativity and supplies needed to create more jewelry, you will then be charged for the silver, cabs, stones, etc that you use separately. The bristles cut from the broom have to soak in water for about an hour or so when you pour the molten silver over them. You will learn how to weigh your sterling silver & silver scraps so you don’t have too much in the pour. It also helps you to determine if you’ve retrieved all of the pieces from the straw after the cast. There’s a little loss, but not much. In the context of metalsmithing, the term "casting" typically refers to a process where molten metal is poured into a mold to create a specific shape or object. Traditional casting methods include sand casting, lost-wax casting, and investment casting, among others. Pre-requisite: Beginning Jewelry Making Maximum is 4. If the minimum is not met, then the class might be rescheduled.
