Service Description

NOTE: We will not be adding small stones to your design, we are learning the technique. Keum-boo (also Geumbu, Kum-Boo or Kum-bu—Korean "attached gold") is an ancient Korean gilding technique used to apply thin sheets of gold to silver, to make silver-gilt. Traditionally, this technique is accomplished by first depleting a surface of sterling silver to bring up a thin layer of fine silver. By repeated heating, quenching in water and pickling until it is completely white and then heat with a hot-plate or a flame; whichever provides the most even and constant type of heating for the particular object. Thin gold foil is placed on the object and a polished steel burnisher tacks it down and then presses it over the surface fixing it permanently in place. You will be making patterned Earrings OR Pendant with your own Keum Boo design on it. You will get a chance to learn about patterning metal, how to do keum boo and putting a simple patina on your silver earrings or pendant. Pre-requisite: Beginning Jewelry making 3 in 1. Minimum 3 and Maximum is 6, if the minimum is not met class might be rescheduled.
