Service Description

Enameling Level I - Windswept Earrings What is the process of enameling? Enameling is a process by which powdered glass is fused to a metal substrate at high heat. Enamels can be applied to glass, ceramics, and most commonly, metals. The application of enamels can add color to metals such as copper, silver, and gold. The powdered glass can be applied either wet or dry to a surface. Learn the basics of kiln-fired enameling on copper while making a fun pair of earrings featuring fall leaves. This class will cover preparing copper blanks, doming, counter-enameling, different types of glass enamels, grinding, sifting, washing, and wet packing opaque and transparent enamels, the addition of foils, kiln firing, and finishing your pieces. Examples of more advanced enameling techniques will also be shared. No prior enameling experience is necessary. This class is a prerequisite for other enameling classes at Studio 26. Class size minimum is 2 and maximum is 6. If the minimum is not met, class might be rescheduled.
